Eight players contributed to a 12-hit attack and senior right-hander Joe Jones pitched four innings of one-run relief Tuesday as Eastern New Mexico University’s baseball team defeated Wayland Baptist 12-4 at Greyhound Field.

Leadoff man Luis Quinones went 3-for-4 with three runs scored while center fielder Brooke Brooks drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly and a two-run triple.

Freshman right-hander Ryan Boydstun (2-0) breezed into the fifth inning with a two-hitter and 5-0 lead before the wheels started to come off. Wayland (8-14) loaded the bases on two singles and a hit batsman, and left fielder Johnny Hendrixson cleared them with a three-run double.

A walk and an error re-loaded the bases, and first baseman Brandon Barcalow beat out a run-scoring infield hit to make it 5-4. But Boydstun escaped further damage with two strikeouts and a groundout to keep the lead intact.

Boydstun walked the leadoff man in the sixth before giving way to Jones, who retired the next six hitters. He finished with one walk and four strikeouts to notch his first save.

Meantime, Mitch Wolfe doubled home a run and scored on a single by Derek Crenshaw in the ENMU fifth, making it 7-4. The Hounds (8-7) added two unearned runs in the sixth before Brooks tripled home two and scored on a single by Joe Huwer in the seventh to finish the scoring.

Huwer and Crenshaw each went 2-for-4 for the Hounds. The Pioneers finished with seven hits, with no one collecting more than one.

The Hounds are idle until Tuesday, when they host New Mexico Highlands in a 2 p.m. start.
